Report Indicates IPOs Worth ₹1,00,000 Crore Expected in FY25

The Promising Outlook for India’s IPO Market in FY25

As we look ahead to the financial year 2025, the Indian IPO market is poised for a remarkable surge, with projections indicating that companies may raise over Rs 1 lakh crore through initial public offerings. This optimistic forecast comes from a report by Investmentz.com, an investment and trading platform that highlights the growing vibrancy of the Indian equity landscape.

Current Landscape of IPO Filings

So far, a total of 56 companies have submitted their IPO documents to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), aiming to raise approximately Rs 70,000 crore. Among these, 19 companies have already received regulatory approval to raise a substantial Rs 25,000 crore. Meanwhile, an additional 37 companies are in the pipeline, seeking to secure Rs 45,000 crore, pending regulatory clearance. Notably, the new-age tech sector is making a significant mark, with nine tech firms collectively targeting Rs 21,000 crore.

Expert Insights on Market Dynamics

Mahavir Lunawat, Managing Director of Pantomath Capital Advisors, emphasizes the dynamic nature of the IPO landscape in FY25. He notes, “With a diverse array of offerings and a fervent appetite for growth capital, the IPO landscape in FY2025 promises to be dynamic and vibrant, offering exciting opportunities for investors and companies alike.” Lunawat’s insights suggest that the anticipated equity raise could exceed Rs 1 lakh crore, contingent on the stability of the global market environment.

Factors Driving IPO Optimism

The optimism surrounding the IPO market is attributed to several interrelated factors. A surge in domestic capital, improved governance practices, and a robust entrepreneurial spirit are all contributing to this positive outlook. Furthermore, favorable government policies, coupled with support from foreign direct investment (FDI), have created a conducive environment for companies looking to go public. The rising financial literacy among the Indian populace and the steadfast commitment of institutional investors further bolster this optimistic sentiment.

A Look Back at FY24

The previous financial year, FY24, witnessed a remarkable performance in the IPO sector, with 76 companies raising nearly Rs 62,000 crore through mainboard IPOs—a 19% increase from the prior fiscal year. The average first-day gains for these IPOs stood at an impressive 28%, with over 70% of the stocks trading above their issue price. This success can be attributed to several factors, including a buoyant secondary market, enthusiastic retail investor participation, and strong institutional flows.

The Nifty 50 index ended FY24 with a 29% gain, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 indices surged by 70% and 60%, respectively. The BSE IPO Index, which tracks the performance of newly listed companies, rose by 69%. This rally in the small and midcap segments has significantly benefited newly listed stocks, most of which belong to these categories. Overall public equity fundraising, including follow-on public offerings (FPOs) and offer for sale (OFS) initiatives, increased by an astounding 142%, reaching Rs 1.86 lakh crore in FY24, up from Rs 76,911 crore in FY23.

Conclusion

The outlook for the IPO market in FY25 is undeniably bright, driven by a combination of favorable economic conditions, robust investor sentiment, and a growing number of companies eager to tap into the public markets. As the landscape continues to evolve, both investors and companies stand to benefit from the opportunities that lie ahead. However, as always, potential investors are encouraged to conduct thorough research and consult with qualified financial advisors before making any investment decisions.
